Plants vs. Zombies addicts rejoice, as PopCap Games has just pushed a huge update for its second installment of the franchise. The latest version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 comes with new cool stuff and lots of improvements.

First and foremost, there's a new large map that players can now explore. The stars and gates available in the previous versions have been removed completely, though we're not sure if this is something temporary or PopCap doesn't plan to bring those back at all.

This means that players will now be able to access all levels at their leisure without having to score enough stars for one of the gates to become unlockable. As mentioned earlier, the keys have been removed as well, so you can try to complete any level on the map.

Those players who still have some key save within their inventory will be rewarded with in-game coins, which makes us believe that PopCap wants to completely eliminate this system in order to gain more players.

There's also something described by developers as Turbo Mode. This has been integrated in the form of a button and allows players to skip the cinematics from the beginning of each level. The button can also be used to speed up zombies.

Then, there's a new breed of zombies called Gargantuars. They are huge nasty creatures that only appear in special levels in various worlds. Here is the official changelog of the latest update:

- We've upgraded the map to make game progression quicker and easier; - It's simpler to know how much you've done, where you're going, and what loot you'll get along the way; - You can invite your friends and send ‘em gifts; - Use the Turbo button to speed up your planting – and speed up the zombies; - Be warned: when we were upgrading the map, somebody let in the Gargantuars.

You can now download Plants vs Zombies 2 for Android 1.7 for free via Google Play. Keep in mind that the game should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.3 and up.
