A natural gas line burst in Harper County on Monday

A natural gas pipeline explosion took place in Harper County, Oklahoma on Monday, prompting evacuations in the area.

Deputy Cliff Brinson with the Harper County Sheriff's Department described the blast sounding like a set of jet engines. Residents heard it at about 11:35 p.m. and called authorities. The flames rose to up to the length of two football fields.

Evacuations have taken place on a two-mile perimeter, but no injuries have been reported. According to CBS News, Northern Natural Gas engineers cut off the gas supply to the line and they were able to contain the destruction.

The fire following the explosion was contained by a team of around 75 firefighters from Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.
