With the increase in video details, better multimedia playback and recording solutions are always welcome, and Pioneer has just revealed the impending arrival of the BDR-S06J, a new internal Blu-ray writer that can reach 12x speeds when scribing.

Though many desktops and laptops still settle for DVD players and writers when it comes to multimedia, Blu-ray is still the superior choice, despite the extra costs.

Now that the prices of Blu-ray products are also dropping, this media is getting closer and closer to becoming mainstream.

Seemingly in anticipation of this, Pioneer went ahead and developed a brand new, internal unit that can scribe data onto single-layer and double-layer disks.

Such operations can be accomplished at speeds of up to 12x, though they are hardly the only kind of tasks that the drive can carry out.

The fact is that, as one would expect from such a hardware product, the BDR-S06J can also easily handle DVDs and CDs, with speeds depending on the exact type.

CD-RW, for instance, can be scribed at up to 24x, whereas 40x is the upper limit for CD-R disks.

When it comes to DVDs, 16x is the speed at which DVD-R/+R disks are written, while the same operations are accomplished at 8x for DVD-R/+R DL and DVD+RW.

Furthermore, Pioneer implemented a speed of 6x for DVD-RW and 5x for DVD-RAM, with BD-RE (DL) and BD-R (DL) being written at 2x and 12x, respectively.

What's more, once it starts selling next month, the product will be bundled with software from Cyberlink, such as Power2Go 6, InstantBurn 5 and PowerDVD 9.

All in all, this product should be able to handle any and all types of optical disk storage and multimedia playback tasks that consumers can think of.

Finally, the device will sell for about $360 and in three color options, namely black, clear white and piano black.
