Intel announced not so long ago its latest platform for the mobile-computing segment, a technology that brought substantial improvements to all aspects of netbooks. The new platform supports higher frequencies while operating on less power and generating less heat. This demands that new netbooks can be made thinner, stronger and more efficient. The Pine Trail has been adopted by most mobile-computer makers and, now, a new addition to the Pine Trail-based netbook lineup has appeared. Created by Packard-Bell, the new dot netbook (dot s2) runs Windows 7 Starter.

The specifications of the product will likely not come as a surprise to any end-user even mildly interested in IT developments. The dot s2 is naturally powered by the Intel Atom N450 central processing unit, which has a frequency of 1.66GHz. The configuration employs 1GB of RAM, a GMA 3150 integrated graphics solution and a 10.1-inch LED backlit display whose maximum resolution is of 1024 x 600. In addition, the storage space is provided by a 250GB hard drive.

The expansion, I/O and connectivity capabilities of the dot s2 are quite varied, even if not altogether surprising. The netbook PC has built-in 10/100 Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. End-users may also select the option to install 3G connectivity on the machine. In addition, the system is designed with a 5-in-1 card reader and a multi-gesture touchpad for easy user-PC interaction. Furthermore, the dot s2 not only comes pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter, but also with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

The mobile computer measures 258 x 185 x 25mm and has a weight of 1.25kg. Its features make it an excellent traveling companion, especially thanks to its six-cell battery, which allows it to run for up to ten hours on a single charge. Lastly, the netbook may come with a case colored NightSky Black, Cherry Red or Glacier Black.

The product will become available in the United Kingdom by the end of the month and will have a price tag of £299.
