I'm afraid today's “Picture of the Day” is not a photo of an annoyingly cute creature looking even more adorable while goofing around. Still, I have to say this January 22 image has just become one of my personal favorites.

Not to beat about the bush, the picture above shows the world's largest offshore wind farm as seen from space.

According to Gizmodo, the photo was shared with the public by the folks at the NASA Earth Observatory, and I for one would very much like to thank them for showing it to us.

In case anyone was wondering, the offshore wind farm in the photo above is the London Array. It sits at a distance of about 20 kilometers (approximately 12 miles) off the coast of Kent and Essex, England.

Specialists in charge of monitoring it say that, in its good days, it can roll out about 630 megawatts’ worth of energy. This output is more than enough to meet the power demand of as many as 500,000 households.

The farm went online not very long ago. Thus, it has been operating since last year's April 8.
