The picture above was taken by NASA's Suomi NPP satellite on March 5 and shows the latest snowstorm to hit the United States.
According to the country's National Weather Service, this particular snowstorm hit the country's Mid-Atlantic states this past Tuesday night, and will affect northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, N.Y.'s Long Island and southern Connecticut this March 6.
As the storm progresses, some areas might find themselves covered in nearly one foot of snow, meteorologists warn. Our Amazing Planet informs us that, all things considered, the people now living in Washington DC should expect to witness a so-called thundersnow.
For those unaware, such natural phenomena are basically a type of thunderstorm which, rather than having rain as its primary precipitation, ends up dumping significant amounts of snow on the areas it hits.
