The sand monster is actually a baby seal in disguise, folks soon realize

Imagine enjoying a quiet day at the beach and coming face to face with this scary sand monster. I don't know about you, but I'd run for cover faster than Looney Tunes' Road Runner.

The picture was posted on Facebook by World Oceans Day, and was taken by photographer Michal Tyl.

Just in case you haven't figured things out just yet, the weird-looking creature is not actually a monster from the deep – or an oddly-shaped cookie covered in powdered sugar, for that matter – but a baby seal.

According to the folks at World Ocean Day, seal pups live with their moms for about 3 years before they go rogue and develop a taste for independence.

The baby seal pictured above is still quite young, so playing in the sand is more up its alley than worrying about rent and about how much a pound of fish costs these days.
