It seldom happens that people label raccoons as cute-looking creatures worthy of our admiration, mostly because these little rascals love and adore going through trash bins and causing all sorts of problems.

Still, something tells me that this photo showing two raccoons holding hands while smiling (or at least trying to smile) for the camera will cause some people to reconsider their opinion of these creatures.

HuffPost tells us that the picture was recently entered into a photography contest in British Columbia by somebody called Kin Fun Li, and got an honorable mention.

If you were to ask me, it deserved winning the first prize.

The contest was organized as part of a fundraising campaign for the local SPCA's Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center, and the winners were announced this past Friday.

The pictures that won the first prize in the Backyard Habitats and Wild Settings categories will be featured in the organization's upcoming spring/summer issue of the AnimalSense magazine.
