Love hurts. It hurts even more when you fall in love with yourself and making small talk turns out to be a bit of a hassle.

The penguin pictured above was caught on camera while staring at its own reflection in an icy pool in the Antarctic by photographer Anthony Pierce.

The latter recollects that the penguin was utterly fascinated with its own image, and could not bring itself together to leave the icy pool and bid its reflection farewell.

“The penguin was standing there for at least 10 minutes in total. It was turning its head from side to side and looking itself up and down repeatedly. It was actually looking itself in the eye sometimes,” Anthony Pierce explains, as cited by Daily Mail.

“Some of the other penguins came to the water's edge, but they just drank some water from the pool and moved on. None of them looked at their reflection. Then the vain penguin came along,” he adds.

I'm pretty sure the penguin and its reflection will never manage to build a future together. On the other hand, their romance is by far a better love story than, say, “Twilight.”
