Witnesses say the hunt lasted for two hours, the dolphin was terrified

There's a very good reason why orcas are also called killer whales. The picture above, taken close to the Mexican coastline, shows one such marine mammal jumping some 15 feet (4.5 meters) in the air while chasing after a dolphin.

Witnesses say that the latter was terrified, but that it did put up an impressive fight. Despite being exhausted and scared, the dolphin managed to elude the orca for about two hours.

“The terror and fight for life of the dolphin was palpable. One felt one could feel the adrenalin in his veins and his pulsing heart as he raced for his life,” photographer Christopher Swann recollects.

Eventually, the killer whale pictured above leaped out of the ocean, and landed right on top of the dolphin. Seconds later, it emerged from the water holding it in its mouth.

Other orcas quickly arrived at the scene, and the pod consumed that dolphin whole, Daily Mail reports.
