14 DAY TRIAL // Pretty much everybody knows that whales are big. Still, it takes pictures such as this one for ordinary folks to be able to truly wrap their heads around the fact that, when compared to humans, whales are absolutely humongous.
The picture above was taken by photographer Justin Hofman in the waters near Argentina's Valdes Peninsula, Huffington Post tells us.
Apparently, the people in the boat were oblivious to the fact that, while they were busy admiring the view, a mother southern right whale and her calf were busy observing them.
According to the same source, Justin Hofman only managed to see the whale and even take this amazing picture due to the fact that, at the time when the mother whale and its calf approached the boat, he was already in the water.
Apart from taking several pictured of the marine mammals, the photographer got the chance to swim by their side for a while.
“Swimming along with a curious right whale calf was nerve-racking. At any moment I thought 'mom' was eventually going to get annoyed with me and swat me with her 15-foot tail, and I'd be a goner,” he recollects.
“Yet, with every passing minute, we felt more comfortable around each other and they became curious about us and would make closer passes,” he adds.
