I have to admit that, until stumbling upon this picture, I was quite convinced that fish have no facial expressions. It turns out that they do, and some of them are pretty hilarious.

The picture was taken in the waters off Australia's coast, Huffington Post tells us. Henric Carlstrom, the diver featured in it, says that he had no idea he was swimming side by side with a Napoleon fish.

Hence the look of surprise on his face when he realized that he was not alone.

Apparently, the fish was utterly oblivious to what was happening around it as well, and had the shock of a lifetime when it realized that an odd-looking two-legged creature was accompanying it on its morning swim.

“I actually didn’t see him swimming with me and it [seems] he didn’t see me either since we both look a bit surprised in the photo,” Henric Carlsstrom told the press.

Presently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers Napoleon fish to be an endangered species. These creatures are also referred to as humphead wrasse, and they inhabit coral reefs in the south and central Pacific Ocean.

They can live to be 30 years old, and adults measure as much as 8 feet (2.4 meters) in length.
