It would appear that, despite being fierce predators, grizzly bears have a somewhat soft side. Or at least some of them do.

The picture above was snapped by 33-year-old Kevin Dietrich in Alaska's Chugach National Forest.

The photographer says that, when it stood up on its hind legs and made this gesture with one of its paws, the grizzly cub looked very much as if it were waving at the camera.

Hence his feeling overwhelmed by the experience, and being quite happy to have a camera close at hand.

“My reaction was one of pure excitement and disbelief. I've often thought about seeing a bear cub standing on its rear legs like a human does, but I truly didn't expect to ever get a photograph of it,” Kevin Dietrich said, as cited by Daily Mail.

Furthermore, “As the cub stood up I knew this was my opportunity to get a photograph I would cherish and remember for a lifetime.”

The young grizzly was not alone when it decided to socialize for a while with the weird, two-legged creature intruding on its territory. On the contrary, its mom was nearby and was busy catching salmon.
