Sources tell us that the giraffe calf was born at Budapest Zoo in Hungary nearly a month ago, on August 13.
Since Rothschild’s giraffes are native to Kenya and Uganda, zoo keepers have decided to call this calf Sempala. As they explain, this is a Ugandan name.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature presently considers this species of giraffe to be an endangered one. Thus, merely 700 Rothschild's giraffes are estimated to still live in the wild.
Conservationists are trying to breeding them in captivity, and hope their efforts will help up the overall headcount for the species.
