Most people are all too familiar with the fact that a crocodile's bite exerts tremendous amounts of force.

As terrifying as these reptiles can sometimes be, it appears that turtles are perfectly capable of defending themselves against their jaws without even having to put up a fight.

Long story short, the alligator featured in this image spent about 15 minutes trying to crack open the turtle's shell in order to feed on the defenseless animal.

Unfortunately for the reptile, the shell simply refused to break.

Naturally, the alligator was left with no choice except give up on the idea of eating the turtle and go find something else to gulp down. Sources say that the picture was taken in Georgia by wildlife photographer Patrick Castleberry, who later said that, “When he [the alligator] finally gave up I walked over to the turtle expecting it to be dead and was amazed to find it quite alive and on its back.”

“I flipped it over and it scrambled into the water.”
