All is fair in love and war, popular wisdom tells us. Apparently, when it comes to food, it is not just fair but also highly recommended to punch whomever is trying to steal your lunch right in the face. Or at least this is what this pair of Alaskan brown bears seem to think.

The incident was caught on camera by photographer Tin Man Lee in Alaska's Katmai National Park.

He later explained that the two bears were both fishing, but that only one of them managed to catch a salmon. The other tried to steal the fish, but learned the hard way that its buddy was by no means willing to part with its meal.

“The two bears seemed ready to fight ferociously for rights to the fish. When they fought it was a stunning scene, it didn't last very long but it felt like it lasted much longer,” Tin Man Lee said, as cited by Daily Mail.

“One thing I have learned about bear behavior is that they only fight with similar sized bears, if there is a clear size difference, the smaller one always surrenders and flees the scene. This was an especially interesting moment as they were almost equal but inevitably one of the bears had to surrender and leave without a salmon,” he added.

One can only hope the bear soon found something else to eat, and did not spend the rest of the day thinking about how delicious the salmon would have been.
