The robot is an awesome project for the time being

If you haven't read anything about FUDAN University, you should check it out on the net. It seems its students have invented an intelligent robot with a child-like ability to learn new things by following human voice commands.

As shanghaidaily reports, the robot is on display at the ongoing Shanghai International Industry Fair. There's nothing scary or ultra high tech about it, just a man-shaped multi-functional machine with a small electronic screen "face," a big square screen in the "chest" and two big wheels as "feet." It actually looks cute!

Jin Cheng, one of the developers told shanghaidaily: "It is expected to become a good household mate for ordinary families, especially the elderly, in the future."

However, they said the most critical part inside the nearly one-meter high robot is a voice receiving and recognition system, which enables the robot to memorize commands. But the same problem goes with a lot of devices of the same kind.

In the near future, some people might actually take the damn cute bot into the kitchen and tell it "here's the kitchen", and familiarize it with other rooms. In 50 years, it might even get familiar with your bedroom. Acting like a genuine GPS navigation device, the robot remembers the locations and formulates an electronic map it can use to navigate. Sweet!

In addition, Fudan researchers said that when people will utter a command such as "go to the kitchen", the robot will be able to search its memory and move to the destination.

Since it is a gizmo after all, its entertainment purposes are rather imminent, therefore it shouldn't surprise anyone that the bot can also function as an interactive television that allows people to select TV programs by voice orders. It might also turn into the ultimate stuff for couch potato geeks.

The same shanghaidaily said: " when demonstrators asked the robot to "tell us something about the 17th Party Congress," video about president Hu Jintao delivering speech on the latest Party congress immediately appeared on the robot's chest screen."

How cool is that?
