The advent of digital photography has rendered the old photo frames almost completely obsolete and, in the same time, led to the development of a whole new brand of devices, namely digital photo frames. And the latest addition to this increasing family of products comes from a company called PhotoVu, who has just announced the launch of its PV1965w 19-inch Widescreen Wireless Digital Picture Frame, a device that provides just about the most advanced features one might expect from such a special type of display.

But what makes this device so very expensive? Well, the PV1965w sports a 1440 x 900, 16m/24bit color, high resolution LCD TFT display, which provides users with viewing angles of up to 160 by 150 , as well as a brightness level of 300 cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 800:1 (typical), a pixel pitch of 0.2835mm, as well as support for 4992 x 3328 images (16.7mp cameras).

Moreover, the device from PhotoVu sports advanced connectivity features, since, beside the USB connector (supports even USB HDDs), the device has been fitted with a Wi-Fi/Ethernet network adapter that allows it to connect to wireless and wired networks without any addition software. Moreover, the device supports 802.11b (11Mbps) and WEP 64/128bit and is upgradeable to 802.11g and WPA3, not to mention the fact that provides photosharing web site integration with Apple iPhoto Photocasts, flickr, Google Picasa Web Albums and SmugMug.

"Our customers have been asking us for a wide format viewing wireless digital picture frame and we're proud to offer the PV1965w to satisfy the needs of our most discriminating digital photography enthusiasts," said Robert Jordan, PhotoVu co-founder and partner. "The 1965w again shows PhotoVu as the high-end leader of premium wireless digital picture frames, offering unparalleled features and functionality in comparison to any other digital picture frames in the market today. Our frames are ideal for consumer photo use or as digital signage displays for businesses."

The new PV1965w model retails for around 1200 US dollars, but, as a "special offer", the company is also offering the PV1965 model (which features a normal display) for "just" $999. What a fantastic offer (pun intended), isn't it now?
