Parisian hipster prank goes viral, gets fans nostalgic

A collection of photos is blowing up on Reddit, getting movie buffs very nostalgic about the glorious VHS era. Obviously, if you’re younger than 25, this post is not for you.

Said collection imagines modern, hit feature films and television shows on VHS, getting the look of the covers down to a T, from the typeface to the pictures and the pull quotes.

It also comes with a hilarious backstory originating from the French Golem magazine about a Parisian hipster. His name is Stan and he is so in love with the idea of bringing back the feel of the VHS era that he’s taking great pains to convert and watch all his favorite shows and films to this format.

Of those he already owns, whose photos are included in the gallery below, the productions that stand out are TV series “Dexter,” “Breaking Bad,” “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead,” and blockbusters “Interstellar,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Gravity,” “The Guardians of the Galaxy,” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

A note placed at the bottom of the article confirms that this is just an April Fools prank and that Stan doesn’t even exist.

That’s not stopping redditors from gushing over the photos, and it’s not difficult to understand why: converting today’s films and shows to VHS would make little practical sense, but it would strike a chord with the kid in us. Those of us who were kids in the ‘80s and the ‘90s, that is.
