You know what they say, go big or go home. Nowhere was that more apparent that during the National Costume stage of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant the other day; but despite the crazy outfits some of the beauties wore, it was Miss Canada who really stood out.
Chanel Beckenlehner is this year’s Miss Canada vying for the Miss Universe 2015 title and she had the perfect idea for a national costume-inspired gown. Little did she know that she would become a viral star and that people would respond in such a way to her hockey-themed dress.
In the process, this hilarious design became the “new Transformer dress,” replicating the media frenzy Miss USA contestant Erin Brady generated in 2013 when she showed up for the same round of the competition in a Transformers / Optimus Prime-inspired gown.
Apparently, Chanel’s dress was created by Alex Kavanagh, whose most famous work is featured in the horror “Saw” franchise. She approached him with her idea and he agreed to help her because he’s always up for a challenge.
In this case, the challenge included incorporating hockey sticks and even an entire scoreboard into the design of a dress. The result, as they say, is something that has to be seen to be believed, so no wonder it caused so much hilarity and controversy (for enforcing stereotypes) online, particularly on social media.
Some choice tweets are available below, while the photo attached offers a pretty good look at the hilarious gown.
