Mary J. Blige graces the cover of the latest issue of Shape Magazine and, while her slimmer, toned figure is what should catch the eye, it isn’t what everybody is talking about right now.

The diva, aged 42, tells the magazine how she quit drinking altogether and got herself at the gym in a bid to become healthier and, at the same time, attain the figure she’s always dreamed of. She was clearly successful in her mission, but do you wonder what happened to her tattoos?

Mary has at least 3 large tattoos that the public knows of: a band on one upper arm, a cross on the other, and a large rose on her thigh. None of these three is visible in the photo on the cover (click on the image above to see it in full), which means that someone at Shape thought it would be a good idea if they removed her body work in post-production.

I know the star has said before that she’d come to regret all her tattoos (I think it’s because they’re in such visible places) and I could also understand the reasoning behind the decision (un-tattooed women on covers probably sell more copies) but I do have to ask this: why would Shape do this to someone who is as famous as Mary?

You can’t possibly do that and not expect people to notice, can you? As fans continue to mumble on the topic on social media and in the blogosphere, Shape isn’t saying anything. Yet.
