14 DAY TRIAL // Dame Helen Mirren isn’t just one of the most accomplished actresses of our times, but also a gorgeous woman – and an immensely cool one, as well. On the red carpet at the premiere of “RED 2,” she wore a fabulous pair of lucite shoes and wasn’t ashamed of posing with them for photographers.
The photo above is of Mirren looking the very picture of elegance and sophistication in a green gown. The second photo in the gallery is of her shoes, which, you will admit, is perhaps the last thing you’d think would go with such a dress.

A couple of years ago, Mirren told Jay Leno that this cheap, tacky shoes were actually her secret weapon at premieres. Few probably believed her.
“They give you an immediate seven inches [17.7 cm]. You’re on the red carpet and there’s Nicole Kidman, who’s like up here, Christine Lahti’s up here and you’re this little midget running around in between them. So I had to have my secret weapon and now everyone’s got them,” she said.
