Cybercriminals have started using the old “customer satisfaction survey” ruse in an attempt to convince customers of Bank of Montreal to hand over their personal and financial details.

According to Hoax Slayer, users are lured to a phishing webpage with the following email:

“At Bank of Montreal BMO, we sincerely value your opinions. As part of our constinuous improvement process, we're conducting a survey to benchmark the opinions of our customers. We will use the resulting information to better serve all of our customers.

We kindly ask you to take part in our quick and easy reward survey. In return we will credit $180.00 to your account - Just for your time! Download and complete the survey form attached.”

Users who complete the survey don’t win the money they’re promised. Instead, by completing the attached form, they’re actually handing over their information to the cybercriminals.

The compromised information can either be sold on the underground market, or it can be used by the phishers themselves to empty the victims’ bank accounts.

In case you come across such an email, delete it immediately. If you’re a victim, contact Bank of Montreal right away.
