LED TVs are here to stay

In case your living room is the size of an Olympic arena you will probably need a BIG TV. I don't usually write the word "big" with Caps On but when talking about the following panel, there's no mistake in doing that. Evidently, I'm talking about the 120 inch LED TV Candeo from Philips.

The Philips Candeo LED screen was first introduced at the IFA 2005 show in Berlin where it captured the audience. Then it was said that the product would be launched in the US at CES 2006 in Las Vegas. Many things have happened since then, and some of us never heard of Phillips' LED TV again. But that doesn't mean it is dead. Philips is said to have already shipped several Candeo LED TVs in the United States. The announced price for the 6mm version was $198,000, while the 10mm version was selling for "only" $98,755. And believe me that when you take into account the sheer size of this monster and also the fact that a 70" LCD or plasma costs at least $70,000 you'll realize that the price tag is quite fair.

The ideal viewing distance is said to be between 5 and 50m, so prepare to welcome it into your house only if you've got a huge living room which craves for the 120 inch 16:9 TV. The resolution for the 6mm (pixel size) is actually just 384x216 pixels. That may not be much, but when you look at it from 5 meters it's enough to see a clear image without any artifacts. Contrast ratio is 2000:1 and the viewing angle is about 150 degrees. The depth of the LED display is just 15,8cm.

Of course the place where LED TVs shine is outdoors. Talking about "outdoors", several versions of this behemoth were used on various occasions during 2006. The "industrial" version of Candeo called Vidiwall was used on several occasions during the 2006 FIFA World Cup and also during Wimbledon 2006.
