Philips has announced the Xenium 9@9m phone model. It comes with an interesting name and also with an appealing design for all those that want a more evolved mobile device.

The phone resembles some other models coming from Sony Ericsson, but differentiates itself through its smaller size and some special features. Xenium 9@9m has 105 x 50 x 17 mm with only 109 grams in weight which means that it is one third smaller than the Sony Ericsson P900 similar model.

The size is considerably reduced, but this means that the screen is also smaller, at a 176 x 220 pixels resolution. That is only if a 2.5-inch display screen can be considered to be tiny. More special features must be mentioned about this touch screen, as it also recognizes handwriting. And we're not talking only about European symbols, but also Chinese ones.

Philips Xenium 9@9m looks like a PDA phone, if you consider its design, but it is actually a very fancy mobile phone with a large number of special features. Still, it supports neither Symbian, nor Windows, only Java. This makes it not very impressive, but still reliable and with other important features included.

Furthermore, it has an internal memory of 70MB, but it is also capable of supporting microSD cards as to further improve that performance. As for multimedia features, this mobile phone has a 2 megapixel camera with flash that can also make high quality video recordings. Aside from that, Philips Xenium 9@9m is also capable of playing MP3 and AMR music files.

Philips Xenium 9@9m is not capable of 3G support, EDGE data or even WiFi, although it does have Bluetooth support. Even more, the USB port is capable of 1.1 connection, which means low transfer rates.

The phone model has been announced for release this month, although price or any other selling specifications have not been revealed yet.
