Cheaper, but with a long battery life

Philips is one of the largest electronics companies in the world, and of course, it also has a slice in the mobile phones industry. Although not many of Philips' mobile phones are high-end, one thing that sets them apart from all others is the long battery life.

Recently, the company introduced, without a big fuss, a new low budged mobile phone, the candybar E1000. Nowdays, even low budget phones pack several interesting features, unlike the old days when you only got text messages and, if really lucky, a clock. Features like these belong to the past and, now, for a low budget, users get a phone that has quite a few tricks up its sleeve.

The company describes Philips E100 as a phone for those who prefer simpler ways of staying connected. This means no camera, but it still has some useful features like an integrated FM radio and MP3 playback, an expandable microSD memory card slot, along with the standard GSM/GPRRS connectivity and the 2MB of internal memory.

Philips also packed in the E100 three built-in games for entertainment, and a few basic applications like alarm clock, calendar, calculator and converter values as well. The phone also comes with multiple language support, including Russian. Weighing only 75 grams and measuring 104 x 44 x 13.7 mm, this phone should fit most pockets, so it might be a good secondary or back-up device to carry around.

Come to think of it, the high-tech devices that the mobile phone manufacturers build these days tend to be more like computers with phone functions, instead of plain old, simple phones. If we were to compare the Philips E100 with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or Sony Erricson's Xperia X1, the last two seem really far off from your standard phone. And, speaking of standard phones, no details on the price or the release date for the Philips E100 have been made available so far.
