Seemingly echoing the large number of GT 430 releases, the display market appears to be getting new members one after another, with even Philips deciding to bring forth a new monitor, one that will be part of the Brilliance series.

Not too long ago, Wortmann AG released a new monitor that focuses on energy efficiency instead of performance.

What's more, Sony only just brought forth its collection of HDTVs and its Blu-ray player designed for the Google TV platform.

Now, Philips is reportedly planning on soon unleashing a new Full HD monitor as part of its Brilliance series.

This newcomer would have the name of 226CL2 and a screen diagonal of 21.5 inches.

The monitor will use W-LED backlights, which are, by themselves, guaranteed to offer an advantage in terms of power efficiency over many other existing monitors.

The most noticeable difference can usually be seen between such LED-backlit models and those that still use CCFL, the latter being significantly more power hungry.

The other technology that Philips is implementing for both efficiency and enjoyment is the SmartImage, which can automatically adjust the image according to what is being displayed, like videos or games.

As one may have already guessed, the native resolution of the screen is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, which means that any multimedia files or games will be enjoyed in high quality.

Other details worthy of mention are the dynamic contrast ratio (DCR) of 20,000,000:1, the brightness of 250 cd/m2 and the GTG response time of 2ms.

Finally, for communication with host PCs, Philips threw in both a D-Sub and a DVI video input.

The Philips Brilliance 226CL2 is slated to actually become available on the market sometime next month.

Meanwhile, pre-orders can supposedly already be set, as long as end-users are willing to part with 165 Euro.
