Easter celebrations in the Philippines come with a reenactment of Christ's crucifixion on Good Friday, when devout Catholics are literally nailed to crosses.

According to the News Inquirer, the area neighboring San Fernando city, in the Cebu province serves as a backdrop for the bloody show.

Residents volunteer to be put up on crosses as part of the show that recreates Christ's final hours, aiming to cleanse themselves of sin and hoping that their prayers are answered.

Uploader videotravelnews posts a video documenting one of the men's ordeal on YouTube. Gilbert Bargayo carries a 280-pound (127-kg) cross to the area designed for the mock crucifixion.

In what is the 17th event of this type that he participates in, he braves 95F (35 C) temperatures.
