The initial reports from the autopsy performed on actor Philip Seymour Hoffman are in and they have been branded as inconclusive at this, unable to elucidate on what was the cause of death.

A spokesperson for the New York City medical examiner's office quoted by USA Today said that further testing would be required in the matter of finding out the exact cause of death of the famous Hollywood actor.

The same person said that there was no timetable for completing the toxicology reports, as well as other test, indicating that the final verdict might take some time to be made.

Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment on Sunday. Sources at the scene reported he was dressed in boxer shorts and a T-shirt, and that he had a needle sticking out of his arm. Upon a thorough search of the apartment, police came across numerous bags of heroine.

The 46-year-old Oscar-winner was known to have a drug addiction, after maintaining a clean record for more than two decades. He had relapsed into both drug and alcohol addiction and sought help in rehab, but it didn't turn out to be beneficial.

The police are making progress in the case, after it was reported they had made the first arrests. Yesterday they took into custody three men and a woman believed to be drug dealers of a particularity deadly strain of heroin that killed 22 people along the East Coast.

Though at first it was believed that the four alleged drug dealers had nothing to do with the actor, it was later discovered that one of the men had Hoffman's number saved on his phone, thus pointing to some sort of connection.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is going to be buried in what has been described as a private funeral that is going to take place this Friday in New York City. The actor's representative has confirmed that there are also plans for a memorial service in the city sometime later this month.
