An investigation will determine if the cause of an explosion that injured eight people in Philadelphia was a cigarette.

While an initial examination attributed the blast to a gas leak, Councilman Mark Squilla claims that a man was to trying to light a cigarette while in the basement of a vacant building.

According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, he may have been trying to ignite a pilot light on a water heater at the time of the explosion.

As I informed you previously, several homes have been damaged in the blast and the worker exposed to the explosion suffered severe burns.

The contractor is currently hospitalized, while three children have also been injured during the incident. So far, reports have shown that he was alone in the house at the time.
