Columbia Records has just announced the release date on one of the most anticipated albums of the year, and keep in mind it's barely February. The music label has made the announcement that Pharrell's “G I R L” is going to drop globally on March 3.

Billboard says that the album is going to contain the worldwide hit “Happy,” which also happens to be nominated at this year's Oscars for Best Original Song. Incidentally, Pharrell was confirmed as a live act, so he's going to be singing for guests at the award ceremony.

“Happy” is a song featured on the “Despicable Me 2” soundtrack and it went on to become the highest-charting Oscar-nominated song since Eminem's “Lose Yourself” more than ten years ago. Apart from reaching number 2 on the Billboard Top 100, the song has also managed to sell 2.3 million copies just in downloads only.

The musical producer who is famed for his successful collaborations, the latest of which, with French electronic duo Daft Punk, has earned him a couple more Grammy for his collection, has struck it out on his own this year.

The end result is a spike in his popularity and a well-deserved fame, which kind of took him by surprise.

Speaking about his solo album, Pharrell had this to say “When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind. One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called 'G  I  R  L'. I hope you like it.”
