With over 60 years of experience in the field, Vision Research is one of the leading manufacturers of digital high-speed imaging systems currently marketed under the Phantom trademark.

Made famous by its high-speed 1-megapixel cameras, the v1210 and v1610 models, the company announced in a recent press release the newest addition to its Phantom camera lineup, the Phantom v2010.

The new model is almost 40% faster than the company's previous model, the v1610, and manages to capture more than 22,000 frames per second at a resolution of 1280x800 thanks to its improved high-definition CMOS sensor. In addition to that, if you don't need high-resolution images and can work with 128x32 footage, the camera is able to capture up to 1 million frames per second.

The new sensor offers larger, 28-micron pixels that offer superior sensitivity and improve high-speed image shooting even in low-light conditions. Thanks to its high ISO 5,000 for color images and ISO 25,000 for monochrome images (daylight illumination), the sensor needs less light to capture enhanced slow-motion footage.

“The launch of the Phantom v2010 is another example of Vision Research’s commitment to bring innovative products to the digital high-speed imaging market,” said Rick Robinson, director of Marketing for Vision Research.

“With its ability to capture high-resolution images at ultra high speeds, the v2010 brings a new level of performance to scientists, researchers, engineers or anyone who needs to capture data otherwise invisible to the human eye.” he then added.

The Phantom v2010 can be equipped with 24GB, 48GB, and 96GB of memory, allowing you to shoot continuously without having to worry about space limitations. The camera also packs a high dynamic range thanks to its 12-bit pixel depth standard that provides excellent image quality.

The company hasn't yet disclosed the price of its new high-speed camera model, but if we take into consideration the costs of a Phantom v1610, the new model will surely be priced somewhere around the $100,000 / €73,000 mark.
