Miley Cyrus' performance at the VMA was absolutely mindblowing. In the bad sense of the word.

In fact, rumor has it that those who've had the chance to see it felt like half their brain was going down the drain, and there was nothing they could do to keep this from happening.

While ordinary folks are still trying to recover from the experience, the people at ABC News decided that it was up to them to get over the initial shock and offer people a scientific explanation for twerking.

Cause, you know, it's just one of those pieces of information one simply can't live without.

Anyway, they (i.e. the folks at ABC News) had a chat with Michelle Oslon, a PhD researcher at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alamaba, who told them that twerking is basically a combination between one really deep squat and a pelvic tilt.

“You take a wide stance with your legs turned out at 10 and 2 so your hips are externally rotated. Then you pulse up and down as you thrust the pelvis bone forward and back,” the researcher reportedly added.

Apparently, twerking is a great way to exercise. It strengthens your thighs, the deep muscles of the hips, the core muscles of the lower back, your abdominals and your behind.

The only problem is that, if you overdo it, you risk throwing out your lower back or make your knees creak.

Of course, if you do it in public and you do it wearing a really wacky outfit, you also risk scaring you audience for life. Miley'd know.
