Sign a petition to convince Facebook that these hoaxes should be addressed properly

Some time ago, a campaign was launched with the purpose of convincing Facebook to treat baby charity scams more seriously. Unfortunately, the social media company hasn’t done much to prevent the phenomenon and that’s why the initiators of the project have made a petition called “Remove The Baby Charity Scam Photos From Facebook.”

Facebook representatives say they are doing everything they can to put an end to the circulation of hoaxes which claim that money will be donated for sick children each time someone shares the messages or the photographs.

However, their efforts haven’t shown any results and that’s why the supporters of this campaign are making another request to the social media site.

Privacy and Security Guide, That’s Nonsense, The Bulldog Estate, Hoax Slayer, Naked Security, and others signed another open letter to Facebook.

They request that the photo reporting tool is changed to include an option titled “Contains material involving children”, possibly with some sub-options to better inform the company on the nature of the content.

Facebook should also leverage its PhotoDNA tool to seek out and remove all images that feature sick children.

Furthermore, Facebook should clearly state that it does not approve of these practices and will not donate money for shares of these images. This statement should be made somewhere where every user can see it and not on a webpage that’s only accessed by a limited number of users.

Since the campaign against these hoaxes started, their number has increased considerably. Even worse, it has been determined that for each removed link, other 22 are uploaded in its place.

We take this opportunity to remind everyone that such hoaxes should not be shared, liked or commented on. Instead, users should report them to Facebook by using the Report button.

The open letter addressed to Facebook by the initiators of the campaign can be found here.

Those who want to aid the campaign can sign the petition called Remove The Baby Charity Scam Photos From Facebook.
