During last week developer Lionhead and publisher Microsoft have announced that they are launching a new Fable III related tool called the Village Maker, which will be accessible to all those interested in the world of Albion and will enable them to create a character, with a unique look and with a complex background and personality, that fits into the game world. When Fable III is out those who have pre ordered the video game will be able to use a code which comes in the case in order to import that created character into their adventure, where it will play a small but important role and offer an exclusive quest.

The Village Maker is a direct expression of the issues that Peter Molyneux, the game designer behind the Fable series, has with the traditional pre order process, that only aims to deliver some extra bits of content to a game. Molyneux told USA Today in an interview that, “for me, the most exciting thing I’ve found I can say to someone is ‘I’m going to put you in the world, so when you come to play the game you’re going to meet yourself.”

The game developer also explained the thoughts process that lead to the Village Maker, saying, “I’ve done this lots of times and thought, ‘Why not make that ability for everybody?’ So if you pre-order you can go on and design your own character whether it be yourself, or a friend or someone imaginary that is going to appear in the Fable world that will be a small player in the Fable story. Then, when you finally buy your copy of Fable you are playing the game and you will meet that character named your way with the personality you want with the look you want in the world.”

Fable III is set to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft during the month of October, with a PC version also in development but set to arrive at a later date.
