The E3 2012 show is just a few weeks away and, despite the ongoing economic problems of the video game industry, both analysts and gamers are expecting to see huge announcements related to new video games and new hardware platforms.

Despite the hype, one leading figure of the development world, Peter Molyneux, seems less than impressed by what companies are getting ready to show.

The former Lionhead leader, who is now working with 22 Cans, has said in an e-mail that, “Sony and Microsoft are holding their breath on next gen. Interesting to see how they pad out another year. Price cuts, form factors? Nintendo’s slightly lack lustre Wii U is going to have to blow us away with better specs and great first party line up.”

Molyneux has also expressed interest in seeing what Valve will show during E3, despite the fact that the company has already said it will not make any sort of major announcement.

Grand Theft Auto V, the open world title from Rockstar, is also on Peter Molynexu’s radar at E3 and he also said that, “I would expect some announcement from Bungie.”

Another point of interest for the video game world will be the first demo of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which Molyneux believes will be unable to top the interest created by the first look at Modern Warfare 2.

The former Lionhead star added, “The real challenge is how the players are going to adapt to the mounting pressure of Facebook, Apple, Social, Cloud, Multi-Gaming. Is the biggest news that E3 itself runs the risk of being outdated, or perhaps it already is?”

Molyneux has not yet announced what project he aims to create at 22 Cans and the company is apparently still looking for developers.

E3 2012 will take place in the Los Angeles Convention Center between June 5 and 7.
