Hard Drives Enclosures are getting the wood treatment

You've probably seen diamond encrusted laptops and some of you have even seen leather-clad notebooks. Nevertheless, hard drive enclosures have never been a "pimp-my-ride" area until now. Last week the first leather-clad enclosure appeared and I guess that now it's wood's time to enter the arena.

The wooden hard drive enclosure comes from a brand called Peter Kinne Designs, and in case you decide to install an IDE drive into it, you'll have yourself a peripheral that should be able to hold together for many years. Plug in an IDE device and then connect the enclosure to a free USB 2.0 port and you'll be left with a supplementary storage space in a thing that feels like a cigarette box.

The enclosure looks like it was extensively polished, with smooth hardwood being used to bring it to life. Some of you may find that passive cooling is not enough to cool down a hard drive inside this unit motive for which you should stay away in case you have a hot drive. The manufacturer claims that the enclosure comes with all the needed cable and that it will work both on Windows and Mac based computers.

The box is somewhat eco-friendly with several parts being constructed using recycled wood. It looks stylish and it would probably feel at home inside a wooden bookshelf. There is no information regarding the availability and the price but it seems that online sells have been suspended. The author warns the possible customers not to test the enclosure in order to see how good it performs when falling from a big distance since the enclosure was not tested to see how it performs under such a shock.
