The one-year-old black and white cat, called Robbie, was just named Pet Survivor of the Year, after overcoming severe burns from a horrible accident. The cat was found with life-threatening injuries after an abandoned sofa he believed to be shelter was set on fire, trapping him into the flames.

After the fire, the poor cat was left with burns on his face, head and paws and had to undergo constant skin grafts and surgeries for almost six months in order to recover.

The case of the feline that almost burned alive in the sofa, touched the hearts of people from the local community and decided to help the Robbie recover by supporting the costs of the medical treatments.

The unfortunate accident left Robbie with one amputated back-leg and almost-melted toes on the other one, besides the other burns on his body and face. Despite his handicaps, Robbie is incredibly cheerful and his owner decided that the survivor cat deserves to be nominated in the contest.

“Robbie is a unique character and he still bears the physical scars from his fiery ordeal. But despite this he runs around the house like a rocket. He is a little hero, and his bravery and fortitude have inspired many people in the community,” Gill Smith, Robbie's owner said according to Metro.

The total amount donated for the cat's recovery was $16,354 (€11,950) with people from all over the UK joining in to help the poor feline. When an RSPCA officer found Robbie in the torched couch back in May, he took the feline to Broadway Vets, where no one believed he will make it after taking a look at his severe injuries.

The veterinarian handling the special patient said he had never seen such a strong and determined cat, that could make it through horrible burns and pain, and if any animal deserves that reward, that's Robbie. The feline has been an inspiration for many locals, seeing him recover after that horrendous incident has only made people love him more.
