Save yourself from sharks by buying discounted games online

The seaside is a dangerous place with sharks roaming in the water and the sun burning up in the sky. Valve cares a lot about its customers and doesn't want to let them go to this ominous place with a summer-themed sale on Steam kicking off today. Because playing games is clearly safer than hanging around beach, Valve's digital distribution channel will slash prices on many of the titles it offers, as well as on the well-known publisher complete packs.

The sale is entitled Perils of Summer and has the tag line “Play It Safe. Stay Inside. Save Big.” In Valve's well-known fashion, funny one-liners abound on Steam, promoting the offers and putting smiles across its customers' faces. “There have been more than 2,251 unprovoked shark attacks reported worldwide. The are no reports of death or injury as a result of playing games on Steam” is just one of the reasons Steam uses to try to convince us to stay indoors and have some digital fun for saving the lives of our families and friends.

As with the case of other Steam sales, one can find ridiculous discounts on products that are usually pretty expensive on the online store. Like the Christmas sale last year, these deals last for 24 hours, after which they are replaced with another set of insane price slashes. The Perils of Summer sale will last until July 4.

Colin McRae Dirt 2 is 10 dollars, while the recent BioShock 2 is 15 dollars for the next 9 hours. The THQ, 2K, Rockstar and Valve complete packs are also on sale for those interested until the end of the event. The Star Wars Complete pack, which includes almost every Star Wars game on Steam, except for LEGO Star Wars, is available for 75 dollars.

Valve is famous for the original way it chooses to handle its public relations and marketing matters. The Team Fortress 2 updates have always been surrounded by a very witty and ridiculous, in a good way, background story. The recent series of announcements on the canceled Portal 2 E3 2010 have really showcased the effort the company puts in its public appearances to stand out from the crowd.
