Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced a new partnership with giant food and beverage company PepsiCo, aimed at promoting a range of products with codes that will allow players to get double experience points in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The products that will be linked to the promotion are the Mountain Dew drink and the Doritos line of chips.

Those pick up a bottle or a pack of snacks will be able to get 15 minutes of double XP time while those who get bigger packs can get up to 90 minutes of quicker experience acquisition.

Activision and PepsiCo are also working to create rewards for those who pick up both snacks and a drinks linked to the promotion.

One player can only enter codes from the Pepsi promotion that add up to 24 hours of double experience, which means that heavy duty consumers of both Doritos and Mountain Dew will need to give some of their promotional codes away after that point.

The promotion kicks off on October 10, which means that players can have their 24 hours ready to be used when the video game launched on November 8, potentially giving them a competitive advantage over players who have not taken advantage of the Pepsi promotion.

The multiplayer of Call of Duty is widely seen as the reason for the series' phenomenal success over the last few years and some fans might be turned off by the fact that a competitive edge will be given to those who buy snacks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which is being developed by Infinity Ward, will have a single player mode which sees the player experience the aftermath of the events of the second game in the series from multiple viewpoints.

The multiplayer will have both competitive and cooperative modes.
