Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, stars of CW’s “Vampire Diaries,” were voted by fans Favorite On-Screen Chemistry couple at last night’s People’s Choice Awards 2014, which took place at the Nokia Theater in LA. They didn’t miss the opportunity to crack a joke about the award and their real-life, now-defunct romance.

Check out their hilarious banter in the video below. As fans know, Nina and Ian play lovers on the show but, since they’re no longer a couple, things could potentially be awkward on set. They aren’t, they seemed to be saying with their painfully scripted but still funny moment.

“And then we started dating on the show. And then we started dating in real life. And then we broke up in real life. And yet our characters are still dating on the show. It’s a good thing it’s not awkward… Well it’s a good thing we’ve got chemistry!” they said back and forth.

Just as hilarious was the introduction they got from presenters Malin Akerman and Shemar Moore, who went out of their way to out-flirt each other.

To her credit, Malin held her own because I can think of at least a dozen of girls I know who would have fainted right then and there to have him hit on them so charmingly.
