Last night at the People's Choice Awards 2012, in what must be a first in the past 3 years, “Twilight” got no love. Instead, the final installment in the “Harry Potter” franchise did, scooping up the Favorite Movie award.
Held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, the awards show included the usual assortment of celebrities mixing together for a good time, posing on the red carpet, performing and, of course, most important of all, taking home awards.
In Film, the biggest winner was “Harry Potter,” hands down. It took home awards for both Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie, as well as for two other categories.
“Twilight,” which, in all fan-centered awards of this type, was usually the favorite, was only slightly represented at the People's Choice by Robert Pattinson accepting the award for Favorite Drama Movie for “Water for Elephants.”
Also in Film, other winners included Emma Stone, who took home 2 awards, Lea Michele, Hugh Jackman, Adam Sandler and Ryan Reynolds, while “Bridesmaids” was officially crowned the biggest comedy of 2011.
Morgan Freeman beat the likes of Robert de Niro, Harrison Ford, George Clooney and Tom Hanks for the award of Favorite Movie Icon.
In Television, “Supernatural” and “How I Met Your Mother” were the big winners, while Kim Kardashian also made an appearance, winning Favorite Celebreality Star.
In Music, though, there was no doubt there was room for just one big winner: Katy Perry. She even won an award in Television, for her appearance on “How I Met Your Mother,” beating apparent rival Gwyneth Paltrow and her extended stint on “Glee.”
Perry took home awards for Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year (“E.T.”), Favorite Music Video (”Last Friday Night (TGIF)”) and Favorite Tour Headliner.
Unfortunately, she wasn't in attendance to claim her statuettes, having issued a statement on Twitter two days before the gala saying she wouldn't be there.
Word online has it she didn't want to show her face in public just yet, after Russell Brand filed for divorce after just 14 months – she didn't want the media attention, it is being said.
