August 23 saw an announcement made by Frictional games that it will be developing Penumbra-Overture, the full length retail version of Penumbra.

The PC adventure game was signed by Lexicon Entertainment, UK independent publisher. As Frictional Games use their own IPS and technology, they managed to create a real-time 3D engine that supports mouse movement interaction.

The storyline of the game seems intriguing as the main character, Phillip, takes a journey into the past and discovers his family's history. All the events are triggered by a letter which Philip receives two weeks after his mother dies. The letter is addressed to him by his father, whom he never met. His father instructs him to burn a book after he retrieves it from a safe deposit box. As you would expect, Philip ignores his father's request and after examining the book, he discovers clues that lead him to Greenland. There starts his adventure as he has a near-death experience.

The object's movement and manipulation motion inside the game is similar to the real-life one. This feature can establish Penumbra: Overture as a groundbreaking game even if it is developed by a small company as Frictional games. The game is said to have next-generation technologies like motion-blur and depth of field and to have the best in-game physics possible due to the implementation of the Newton Game Dynamics engine.

Penumbra: Overture's developer focused more on producing a game that can challenge player's wits than rather using mindless violence in order to register a large commercial success. To fully understand the game's mechanics with new mouse movement manipulation, so that a player can completely enjoy the Penumbra: Overture experience, a tutorial level is featured.

We can say that Penumbra: Overture will register a large success as it was previously released as a tech-demo gaining over 250,000 downloads worldwide and the forums blaring with comments from gamers who are eager to get their hands on the game.
