"What do you mean by -comes out of the shadow-?", some of you may ask. Well, know that the release date for Penumbra: Overture has been set. Also, this horror-adventure game has found itself a publisher, in the name of Got Game Entertainment and Lexicon Entertainment.

Got Game will publish the game in North American and Lexicon Entertainment in the United Kingdom. Penumbra: Overture is set to be released in March 2007, and by the looks of it, this PC game will retail for just 20 bucks. Cheap enough?

In Penumbra: Overture, players take the role of Philip, who after the death of his mother receives a letter from his father, who is also dead. He reads the letter, which instructs him to burn a particular book. Philip does not comply to this request, and instead, he decides to read it. The book presents him with clues to a puzzle, which ultimately leads him to Greenland.

In Greenland, Philip finds himself caught in a snow storm, and he seeks refuge in a metal hatch located in the snow. As he steps into the metal hatch, he sees himself entering an unknown world where he has to solve puzzles and discover secretes of his past.

This game by Frictional Games will have next-generation technologies like motion-blur and depth of field. Some are also saying that Penumbra: Overture will have the best in-game physics, because it will use the Newton Game Dynamics engine. Maybe this game will turn out to be something special, as Frictional Games focused more on producing a game that challenges a player's wits and is not based on mindless violence.
