Ricoh, the owner of the Pentax digital camera brand, recently unveiled its new flagship DSLR, the Pentax K-3, which comes with various improvements over the previous K-5 II model.

Among these improvements we can find a faster image processor, a 24.4-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, a SAFOX 11 TTL autofocus system (27-point, 25 of which are cross-type), larger LCD display, as well as a pentaprism optical viewfinder with 0.95x magnification and 100% coverage.

Taking advantage of the new sensor manufactured by Sony, the K-3 also comes with a few features found on more expensive digital cameras like dual SD card slots and USB 3.0 support (the K-3 is the second camera on the market after Nikon D800 to have this feature).

To improve stability and general performance, Ricoh recently announced the availability of a new firmware update for its Pentax K-3 digital SLR. The new v1.01 comes with a few performance fixes meant to lessen the usage of the camera in certain conditions.

First of all, the new build addresses the K-3's HDR Capture option that allows you to capture three images with different exposure settings and automatically combines them into a single image with an expanded dynamic range.

With the new update, the image combining time for HDR Capture is now shorter, allowing you to view results quicker than with the previous version. In addition to that, using phase-matching autofocus doesn't affect anymore the camera's performance in continuous shooting mode.

After the upgrade, Live-View mode will also benefit from an extended enlarged display time. Furthermore, the v1.01 firmware comes with improved stability for an increased general performance.

Pentax K-3 is now available in all major photographic equipment stores at a price of $1,649.95 / €1,210. If you want to take advantage of all these new features and improvements you should download PENTAX K-3 Digital Camera Firmware 1.01 right away.
