If it were not for the fact that I graduated some time ago, I would surely be quite jealous of students in Japan who are now getting help taking their entrance exams from the odd-looking fruits pictured above.

Laughing Squid tells us that these pentagon-shaped citrus fruits were created by farmers especially for students who feel that they need some help studying and doing well in school.

Oddly enough, the fruits are not intended to help young people by providing them with a healthy dose of vitamins – although odds are this happens every time a student eats one – but by bringing them good luck.

That's right, the five-sided version of the yokan citrus fruit works as a good luck charm. What's more, it is named “Gokaku no Iyokan,” which apparently translates as “the sweet smell of success in exams.”

In case anyone was wondering, the fruits grow to have this peculiar shape not because of some wacky spell, but thanks to wooden frames in which they are encased.
