Who was actually a reporter

Paul Rogers, 37-year-old, who worked as a police crime scene examiner in Southampton, received an 18 months in prison sentence after he was found guilty for grooming and attempting to meet a 12-year-old girl met on the web. It all started with Rogers pretending to be a 14-year-old girl asking for private details about a 12-year-old girl. According to Reuters, the policeman wanted to pay the girl no less than 100 pounds in order to play sexually oriented games while dressed in their underwear. In September, Rogers wanted to meet the girl but instead of a cute 12-year-old child, he met the authorities that sent him to prison for 18 months. The girl was actually a reporter from the Sunday People newspaper.

The interesting fact is that Paul Rogers sustains he's not guilty because all he did was only for fun, his actions being described as "silly" and "totally out of character", as Reuters reports. Moreover, he sustains he thought the girl was over 18, which should absolve him of the charges mentioned above.

"This case will be another reminder to pedophiles that wherever they go and whatever their occupation, the Met's Pedophile Unit will respond to all allegations about individuals who may be putting children at risk of abuse and will track the perpetrator down," Detective Sergeant Nick Duffield, of the Met's Pedophile Unit, said for Reuters.

This is not the first time when sex offenders show us they can be extremely dangerous for the young Internet users accessing social networks or other types of websites which are especially meant to attract this segment of users. In the past, it was reported that several thousand sex offenders were caught on MySpace after an investigation of the authorities.
