The iFixit teardown walkthrough got the type of Bluetooth wrong

Yesterday (March 13, 2013), we reported on the teardown made by iFixit to the Pebble Android Smartwatch.

Pebble couldn't really do anything about one of its own being taken apart. iFixit placed everyone in front of a fait accompli after all.

It did have one thing to comment on though: the Bluetooth. iFixit said Bluetooth 2.1 was used, but Pebble claims that it implemented Bluetooth 4.0.

Still, the chip used doesn't normally support Bluetooth 4.0. Only flashing the firmware of a different chip on it changed that, so the confusion isn't anyone's fault really.

The move was done to speed up orders, the company says. Since it didn't have enough 4.0 chips, it had to take liberties.

Pebble still has to switch on the Bluetooth 4.0 (or Bluetooth LE) support on the watch's operating system. No explanation exists for this delay. The original statement is found on Reddit.
