As the first successful smartwatch, Pebble has been getting a lot of attention. Now, the folks behind the watch are giving something back to the world, so to speak.

Pebble has decided to donate 4,000 smartwatches to STEM-focused education programs, which is to say schools that specialize in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Among the first recipients, there will be Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pennsylvania, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Watches and limited-time discounts for personal Pebble purchases will be offered to various CS and engineering graduates.

Organizations that also want to participate in this project can get in touch with Pebble for details.

The whole donation plan is worth over $600,000 / €435,600.
