The new weapon offers more tactical options for all maps

The Revolution downloadable content pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 introduces new maps and more zombie content, but the most interesting addition for some players is the new weapon, called the Peacekeeper.

Some gamers are worried that its introduction will upset the delicate balance of the multiplayer game modes but the development team wants to reassure the fan community.

Combat designer Anthony Flame and lead artist Murad Ainuddin talk about the weapon on the official blog of Black Ops 2, saying, “we designed the Peacekeeper to have a compact rifle look. We also wanted to give a base white finish to provide a stark contrast from all the other weapons in Black Ops II, but also in Call of Duty history.

The main idea was to create a weapon that looked very attractive while also suggesting familiarity.

They add, “The Peacekeeper is a Submachine Gun-Assault Rifle Hybrid. It has the lightweight design of an SMG, but with better range and accuracy at the cost of close quarters firepower.”

Treyarch suggests that players start by using it in objective-based modes, including Hardpoint, in order to see exactly how it best fits with their already existing strategies.

Apparently the developers themselves have begun appreciating the options offered by the Peacekeeper on most maps.

It’s unclear whether the team wants to continue adding more weapons via DLC in the future or whether this is a one-time deal designed to generate interest in the first DLC package for Black Ops 2.

Revolution also includes four new maps to increase the level of variety and a new take on undead-powered gameplay.

It will first be offered for those who have Elite early next week and other players will get it towards the end of February.

Black Ops 2 is the most successful title launched in 2012.
